READING UPDATE: Week of March 7, 2015

     Hello fellows!

Coming from the name of this blog post, I guess I'm adding something new to the blog.

I've never really done a "Reading Update" because I usually have a book finished that I could talk to you guys about. Although I used to do this regularly ("Currently Reading:__________", "Finished:__________", etc.), school has come to play and has affected my reading life as well. With the term recently ending, school work has been piling and piling up. Another reason as to why I don't update as much, would be that I don't have any books that you know of to update on. My dad has just come home from the Philippines and bought me like 20 books. He's getting me to read all of them, so for the moment, the only books I've been reading are in Tagalog or a book only published in the Philippines. Sorry for this long introduction, I believe I just feel that I needed to explain to you guys why this is happening.

Okay, so for the books I'm reading right now:
  1. Days of Blood and Starlight (I know, I know, I've been reading this book since last month. Hurry up, Mia)
  2. Cruel Beauty (I haven't advanced from the place where I was at [meaning chapter 6] since the last blog post)
  3. The Night Circus (I'm still on chapter 2, but it seems exciting [as usual])

Summary:
Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.

This is not that world.

Art student and monster's apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it.

In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she'll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life.

While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope.

But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?

Title: Cruel Beauty

Number of Pages: 352
Summary:
Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl's journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

Title: The Night Circus
Author: Erin Morgenstern
Publisher: Doubleday
Date Released: September 13, 2011
Number of Pages: 387
Summary:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called "Le Cirque des Reves," and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway--a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love - a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus per-formers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

That's all for my post, and remember: you should be a tree; they have awesome afterlives.
